I am testing memory limits and can't seem to get lveinfo to display the errors. If I use:

lveinfo --id=501 --by-fault=mem --period=1h

I get nothing but the headers returned. Yet, I am running a script that produces memory errors:

Suggestion for LVE plugin for WHM :: Show users that have custom LVE settings

Suggestion for LVE plugin for WHM :: Show users that have custom LVE settings in forum CloudLinux and cPanel.
Hello,

It would be nice to be able to see the accounts that have customized LVE settings, in the WHM plugin.

For example, if we click the LVE Manager in WHM, and then choose "Edit Settings For Specific LVE" option.. I would like to see a table of accounts that have already been given customized settings, and what are their current settings. For example, like this:

------------------
USERNAME (ID) / CPU/ MEM mb / CONCURRENT CONNECTIONS / # OF CORES

testuser1 (12345) / 50 / 512 / 25 / 2
testuser2 (12346) / 25 / 1000 / 21 / 1
------------------

This way, we can quickly and easily see any per-account LVE customizations that have already occurred, without having to fiddle around with the main configuration xml file.

I hope that makes sense?

Thanks.
Hello,

Does anyone know where is the 503 error page located that is displayed by apache when the number of entry processes for an LVE is exceeded?

Also, can this page be over-written on a per-account basis? ie: If customer puts a "errordocument 503 /503.html" into their .htaccess file, will that file be used instead of the server default file?

Thanks!
Hello,

I have a xenserver vm with centos 5.7 and cpanel installed (fresh install) and when I try to run the cloudlinux install script to convert to cloud linux i get the following:

====code====

[root@cp1 ~]# /usr/local/cpanel/bin/cloudlinux_system_install -k
This script does not support the xen pv environment.

=============

Is this compatible with xenserver VMs? And if so what am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Vince
Hello!
We are using cpanel & cloud linux. Everything is working great in WHM and CPanel!
The customer can also see the LVE in cPanel right now (CPU Usage, Memory Usage, Entry Processes).

Now, we want to build our own User Interface and manage everything via the cPanel API (API1, API2, ..)
Unfortunately, we didn't find a way to receive the LVE data via script (PHP).

Is there any possibility or can someone provide a snipped of code how to do this?

Thank you in advance
Harald

Getting user ID

Getting user ID in forum CloudLinux and cPanel.
Hey there,

Basically I'm trying to see the current settings for a user account in cloud linux through the LVE manager in WHM.

When I go to home, I can see the current users showing up and their ID's however I have not been able to find out how I can find the ID for a random user.

Basically I want to be able to see what limits a user is currently on - is there a way to do this? I know when you click on an LVE ID in the list on home, you can get Modify settings for LVE 654 and it will show you what settings it already has applied such as cpu/ram.

When looking the account in history however, as it is now showing 100% for the cpu I can't actually tell what the current limits are set to?

So the short version is, how do I see the cpu limit of a current cpanel account.

Thanks.
Hi,

I have a strange issue. The "Resource usage" details in the cpanel is not updating at all. The cpu usage, entry process and memory usage is always zero. We have tried running cron job to verify the entry process and but it is not updating at all. Can someone tell what might be the cause?.

Resource Usage Details
Current Usage
CPU Usage	0% / 100%
Memory Usage	0 / 1.0G
Entry Processes	0 / 20

:?:
Regards,
Arun.

Default memory limit = 1GB, or does it?

			Since memory limits are based on counting memory pages and since memory pages are 4096 bytes, not 4000 bytes shouldn't the default mem limit setting of 1 GB:

<mem limit="262144"></mem>

instead be:

<mem limit="256000"></mem>

# getconf PAGESIZE
4096

Incorrect CPU usage reported

Incorrect CPU usage reported in forum CloudLinux and cPanel.
Hey guys,

I have had cloud linux running on a few servers perfectly fine, and now today I have noticed that the CPU limit / usage is displaying incorrectly. This is also happening on a server I installed cloud linux on today so it seems to be present in the latest version.

The limit for this user (and default server wide) is 15% cpu and 384M memory. You can see in the image below memory is accurate but CPU shows a limit of 100, and average and max higher than is allowed. I can see through SSH running the lvetop command that the user is not passing the defined limit of 15% so I'm hoping this is a bug.

root@server[~]# uname -a
Linux server 2.6.18-374.3.1.el5.lve0.8.44 #1 SMP Mon Oct 3 18:27:54 EEST 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

root@server[~]# cat /etc/redhat-release
CloudLinux Server release 5.

root@server[~]# rpm -qa|grep lve
kernel-headers-2.6.18-374.3.1.el5.lve0.8.44
liblve-0.8-20
liblve-devel-0.8-20
lve-0.8-20
lve-utils-0.6-10.el5.cloudlinux
lve-stats-0.8-2.el5.cloudlinux
kernel-2.6.18-374.3.1.el5.lve0.8.44
kernel-devel-2.6.18-374.3.1.el5.lve0.8.44

I've tried a yum update lvestats but it says there is no newer version available.
Hi there,

Im looking to have cagefs on my severs for current jailshell users and i have some questions.
Although i see there are a instructions to install in a specific cpanel server, looks like there isnt any plugin or graphical way to active per user as it have currently for jailshell or shell in WHM.
Should i proceed to first disable all the shell/jailshell at cpanel and then enable cagefs for the desired users?
What happen if by error once cagefs is enabled in a user i go ahead and enable cpanel jailshell for that same user, this will somehow create a conflict?

IS there any eta for a non-beta version?

Thanx in advance!
Hey guys,

I've been trying to install Cloud Linux on CentOS 5.6 following the instructions. Basically it all worked fine until I got to checking for LVE in WHM.

Some information on where things are currently at:

uname -a
Linux Server 2.6.18-194.32.1.el5 #1 SMP Wed Jan 5 17:53:09 EST 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

cat /etc/redhat-release
CloudLinux Server release 5.6

rpm -qa|grep lve
Outputs nothing

I have tried to rerun centos2cl and get the following:

Installing lve...
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror

Error getting repository data for cloudlinux-i386-server-5, repository not found
New cPanel installed, no extra packages needed
!!!Important: Memory limits are disabled by default.
To enable memory limits, please run:
# lvectl ubc enable --save

-bash: lvectl: command not found

Googling the error results in no help.

I've rebooted after running sh centos2cl -k like it said, and I do have a valid license purchased through cPanel for the servers IP address.

I've tried plenty of things like yum install cpanel-lve, yum install cpanel-lvemanager, basically anything I could google but none helped, all result in saying that there is no such package.

I've also recompiled apache through WHM's easy apache as I read this was required for mod_hostinglimits, I am assuming this is done is there anyway I can check the module is there? It doesn't appear in httpd -l

Not sure if related, while running sh cpanel2cl -k I noticed that the repositories were all 64 bit?

Any help would be great, thanks.

IP Issues & httpd Errors

IP Issues & httpd Errors in forum CloudLinux and cPanel.
I'm having trouble repairing a cPanel server, it has been acting up with issues like zamfoo not working, sites that used to work are displaying: Bad Request (Invalid Hostname) But the hostname is the same, however, when I tried pinging eth0 all packets timed out, but when I pinged eth0:0, eth0:1. Both of those worked, I'm assuming that this is some sort of IP issue, but I also noticed httpd having some user errors which I was able to fix by commenting out their virtualhost. Any help would be appreciated.

Added Information:
When running a traceroute the eth0:0 works, however when running traceroute to eth0's ip it fails. Any ideas on what I have to do to fix this?

Number of Cores, lCPU & CloudLinux 6.1

Number of Cores, lCPU & CloudLinux 6.1 Anomalous value reported for lCPU with CL 6.1 in forum General Discussion.
Hello.

We have a few servers with running CloudLinux 5.7.1 running on them and one server which has CloudLinux 6.1 running on it. All of the servers have the following Default LVE settings:

CPU: 25
MEM: 1.0GB
Concurrent Connections: 20
Number of Cores Per LV: 1

(and persists is enabled). Now with regards to the CL 5.7.1 servers: A couple of those are dual dual core machines = 4 cores whilst the remainder are dual quad core machines = 8 cores. So as expected, with all LVE's using the default settings, lCPU for the 4 core machines is 25 whilst lCPU for the 8 core machines is 12.5 and of course, unless we allocate more cores (either globally or to a specific LVE), then this value cannot be increased.

Now with regards to the CL 6.1 server: It too is a dual quad core server and it has the same global defaults of as all the other server. However, on the CL 6.1 server, with a global Number of cores setting per LVE = 1, lCPU is 25 and in fact can also be increased beyond that without allocating more cores. For example, one of my colleagues at work assigned mCPU of 50 to one LVE on that server and lveinfo reports that for that LVE, lCPU for is now 50 and that sometimes mCPU hits 50 yet the number of cores allocated to this LVE is still 1.

So how is it possible for this particular LVE to be able to use 50% and for the others to be able to use 25% if they all have only 1 core allocated to them? I would have thought that on an 8 core machine that the LVE with lCPU 50 would need 4 cores allocated to it whilst for the others to have lCPU of 25 they would each need 2 cores allocated to them.

As such, keeping in mind that all of the LVE's have only 1 core allocated to them, then wouldn't the lCPU for all of the LVE's actually be 12.5?

Thanks,
Michael
Hello!

Am I right that on CloudLinux-5 lveps -d reports MEM in pages, but on CloudLinux-6 lveps -d reports MEM in kilobytes?

Website master needs help with Memory Usage Limit being exceeded.

Website master needs help with Memory Usage Limit being exceeded. I'd like to diagnose my website's higher memory usage problem. A log file of webpage memory usage would be useful. in forum Programming for CloudLinux.
Hi Newbie here.

I have an account with a reseller host and fr om the looks of my cPanel pages, cPanel has a Memory Usage Limit feature provided by your (CloudLinux) plug in to cPanel.

I have tracked you down fr om this page on the cPanel website.

<noindex>http://www.cpanel.net/2011/08/setting-the-right-limits-for-efficient-shared-hosting-operations.html</noindex>

This is a screen shot of cPanel - Resource Usage showing the memory faults being generated with a MEMORY Limit / LMEM of 700 MB.

Now, I have pointed out to the reseller and he in turn has contact his ISP hosting package provider quoting fr om that page and commenting as follows.

====quote====
"VIRTUAL MEMORY Limit controls the total amount of virtual memory available for applications running within an account. By default, each customer is limited to :!: 1GB :!: of virtual memory. If a user application tries to use more than that such application will fail, as it hasn't been able to allocate memory. This usually shows up as error 500 (Internal Server Error) in a visitor’s browser.
The memory limit is the sum of virtual memory used by all applications in the account. It is important to note that we are limiting virtual, not physical memory. Multiple processes often share physical memory but don't share virtual memory. As a result you need to allocate much more virtual memory than physical memory. This is why it is important to leave virtual memory limits high enough."
=============

My emphasis of 1GB or 1024MB presumably, which is significantly more than they had me on initially - 500MB and still more than I am on now 700MB. Seems to me there is evidence for saying - "at least give my users the default of 1024MB."

====quote====
"Adjusting Limits
By default, limits are optimized for servers with 50-5000 accounts and require no tuning. Yet, often there are just a couple of bad neighbors on a server that you might want to fence a bit more tightly. Sometimes you would want to adjust limits if some site is having an issue. The customer might be willing to pay more, or you feel that the customer deserves to be able to burst a bit higher, as he isn’t causing problems for the server."

"Memory limits are the trickiest. Visitors will get an error 500 (Internal Server Error) when the site hits the memory limit. This error might mean something is wrong with the script, with server settings, or it might be due to memory limits. Differentiating is easy; just go to LVE Manager and do a search “By Fault” and sel ect memory. If you see that the site displayed in the search results it means that the memory limit was hit by that site. If you don't see it there the issue lies elsewhere. "
=============

There I would suggest approaching the ISP with the argument that my site ought to be allowed to burst a bit higher as my site isn't causing problems for the server. Try asking them for my site only for twice the default of 2GB or 2048MB for MEM Limit / LMEM

After all it is only virtual memory that they are limiting. It seems pointless to wreck a website just to save virtual memory.
The above is by way of explaining my background.

Now meantime, I'd like to investigate and diagnose exactly where my website is using more memory compared to other sites.

I have an idea of which page is causing my problem - I have a webpage with IFRAMES and both the webpage and the IFRAME pages are PHP pages and the PHP also uses a MySQL database so I think the memory usage coming fr om php or mysql but I'd like to be sure.

I'd like to know for each page served how much additional memory usage has been added to the total.

If I know how much memory each page service has used then I can see when I make a change if the memory usage goes down and by how much.

So I am thinking I would like to have a log file showing how much memory has been used by each page served and I am looking for help to write the software to write such a log file (since no such log file is provided in the system).

Unfortunately the only data available for memory used in cPanel is over a period of time and that could be many pages served by many visitors to the site. It is not sufficient information to diagnose how much memory is being used by each PHP page on each occasion.

I am thinking I would like a log file something quite like the cPanel Raw Access Log file but with data items such as

Visitor IP
Date and time page served
Page URL
Memory used in serving this page :?:

Now I know how to write a log file fr om php but I don't know how to access the data for memory used for that page.

So since CloudLinux adds up the running total for Memory Usage value the CloudLinux programmers must know how to access this data and can perhaps suggest a way for me to access the values they are using.

It is not sufficient to access how much memory PHP alone is using, nor how much memory mysql alone is using. I need to know the exact value that is being added to the total by the plugin.

So can anyone here help me with programming this?

I have tried finding this memory usage problem "flying blind". I have tried using directory php.ini files to lim it PHP configuration memory_lim it but that has not solved the problem and I'd like some programmer tips to help me find out wh ere the memory usage is coming from please.

Thanks!  :)

Also I would like to point out that this forum is behaving strangely and adding unwanted spaces in between words which I am not typing.

Interworx plugin

Interworx plugin in forum CloudLinux and InterworX.
In anticipation of our uppgrade to CloudLinux tonight, we contacted our Controlpanel provider interworx to get their take on any issues we might face, or any tips they might have. And the support tech said that he might have heard something about a plugin that 'enhances some features of iworx when combined with CloudLinux'

Is there anyone here that have heard of this, and can point us to specifics?

Can't enter to lve from slave context

Can't enter to lve from slave context in forum CloudLinux and H-Sphere.
I noticed fr om other posts, that this error relates to a confusions between mod_fcgi and mod_hostinglimits.

I would like PHP via FCGI and other scripts monitored by cloudlinux.

I'm running apache 1.3 for this example.
the extra/httpd-hostinglimits.conf looks like this now:

====code====

LoadModule hostinglimits_module /hsphere/shared/apache/libexec/mod_hostinglimits.so

<IfModule mod_hostinglim its.c>
   SkipErrors Off
#   AllowedHandlers cgi-script php5-script php4-script php-script application/x-httpd-php5 application/x-httpd-php x-httpd-php fcgid-script application/x-httpd-php4
AllowedHandlers cgi-script fcgid-script
</IfModule>

=============

httpd.conf contains this:

====code====

<IfDefine FASTCGI>
   <IfDefine !LIBLVE>
       LoadModule fastcgi_module libexec/mod_fastcgi.so
   </IfDefine>
   <IfDefine LIBLVE>
       LoadModule fastcgi_module libexec/mod_fastcgi_lve.so
   </IfDefine>
</IfDefine>

=============

apache runs like this:
====code====

/hsphere/shared/apache/bin/httpd -DLIBPHP5 -DSSL -DFASTCGI -DFRONTPAGE -DSECURITY -DLIBLVE -f /hsphere/local/config/httpd/httpd.conf

=============

Now, the error message (Can't enter to lve from slave context) no longer appears, but lveinfo -d does no longer show websites running PHP5 via fcgi.

I'm guessing they are no longer protected from using to many resources now?
